Introduction
Graphite morphology decides the strength of an iron casting. When the melt carries coarse graphite, mixed flake forms or uneven nodularity, the casting loses strength no matter how good the pouring practice is. Our Rare Earth Composite Refining Agent combines rare earth elements with supporting components to purify the melt and refine the structure at the same time, so one ladle addition handles both cleanliness and graphite control.
What the rare earth fraction does
The rare earth content reacts strongly with oxygen and sulfur, two elements that otherwise form the fine inclusions responsible for porosity and brittleness. Removing them early in the ladle gives the graphite a cleaner melt to grow in. In practice this shows up as a higher graphite nodule count, a better spheroidizing rate and improved fluidity in thin sections.
