In the thousand-year history of the Silk Road, the Han Dynasty (202 BC - 220 AD) was a glorious and immortal chapter, marking the official origin of the Silk Road.
In the third year of Jianyuan (138 BC), Zhang Qian was dispatched by Emperor Wu of Han to embark on a mission to the Western Regions, only to be detained by the Xiongnu for over ten years. It was not until the third year of Yuanshuo (126 BC) that Zhang Qian escaped during the chaos of the Xiongnu and reported the detailed situation of the Western Regions to Emperor Wu of Han. In the fourth year of Yuanshou (119 BC), Emperor Wu sent Zhang Qian on his second mission to the Western Regions to visit various states, officially initiating exchanges between the Western Regions and the Han Dynasty, and laying the initial foundation for the Silk Road.
