1、The RP graphite electrode is produced from ordinary grade petroleum coke. It has a low graphitization temperature, a high resistivity, a large linear expansion coefficient, and poor thermal shock resistance. Therefore, its allowable current density is relatively low.
2. The HP graphite electrode is produced from high-quality petroleum coke (or low-grade needle coke). Sometimes, the electrode body needs to undergo impregnation treatment. Its physical and mechanical properties are slightly higher than those of ordinary power graphite electrodes, such as lower resistivity and the ability to allow a larger current density.
3. The UHP graphite electrode must be produced from high-grade needle coke, and its graphitization heat treatment should be carried out in an inner series graphitization furnace, with a graphitization temperature as high as 2800 to 3000° C.
